March 4 Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia allowed the French retailer Auchan to acquire a network of Russian hypermarket Real. But Auchan should not use one trading facility in suburban Kotelnik, as in this case share trading network in the area may to exceed the mark of 25%

The main activity of the trade network is retail sale in non-specialized stores with food, beverages and tobacco.

This year, Russia may reach pre-crisis level of the juice production

Natalia Ivanova, president of the Association of Juice Processors in Russia says that RF has the potential to reach the pre-crisis level of the juice production.

Recall that in 2008 the volume of production of juice products have fallen sharply and for the past four years have not returned to the original rate.

This information was confirmed by Pierre Filippenko, director of marketing in “Multon”. He says production levels fell by 10% in the year of crisis and now it recovered by only 7% -8%.

Ms. Ivanova also released the results of the juice processing facilities in the past year: 3.03 billion liters of juice, which is 2.3% more than in the earlier period.

С 1 по 3 марта 2013 года в Санкт-Петербурге прошла 11-я международная специализированная выставка индустрии гостеприимства “ExpoHoReCa 2013″, в которой уже не в первый раз принимал участие Институт маркетинга морепродуктов Аляски.

Fish and Seafood Exports Increased in January 2013

Fish and seafood exports in January 2013 increased in volume by 27 per cent, 35.8 thousand tonnes, and in value by 19.7 per cent to $236.4 million, from the same time last year.

In January, exports of frozen fish increased by 27.4 per cent to 156.9 thousand tons, due to the increase in yield and export of Pacific herring, Pacific and Atlantic cod, mackerel, haddock and sea bass, reports ProdMagazin.

Despite the rise in the other species, exports of salmon and pollock declined.

Exports of fish fillets increased by 14.1 per cent to 4.8 tonnes. The main export fillet went to the Netherlands and South Korea. The increase in exports was due to the growth in exports of cod fillets .

ProdMagazin reported that exports of fish, dried, salted or smoked increased by 82.4 per cent to 547 tonnes.

Crustacean exports grew by 11.2 per cent to 2.7 tonnes. Export growth was due to the increase in the export of crabs. At the same time, amid falling catches and the increase in income for the domestic market, shrimp exports decreased to 222 tons.

Exports of shellfish have grown by 9.4 per cent to 1018 tonnes and exports of prepared or preserved fish products increased by 7.6 per cent to 1.38 tonnes.

Magnit opens 130th hypermarket

OJSC “Magnit” is pleased to announce the opening of new hypermarkets.

X5 to launch Perekrestok Express chain in Kyiv

The Russian grocery retailer the X5 Retail Group is planning to launch a chain of convenience stores under the Perekrestok Express brand name in Ukraine. The first two stores are due to open in Kyiv in 2013 and will test the express format in the country. One of them is expected to become operational on a 200 m2 site at the end of April 2012. In addition, the company’s own store retailer is ready to develop a franchise chain. In terms of wider development plans in the country, the company intends to focus on Kyiv and the Kyiv Province.
X5 operates in Ukraine through its subsidiary the Iks 5 Retail Group. The group has been present on the country’s retail market since 2004 and currently has just 10 stores there, in comparison with more than 3,800 in Russia.

Lithuania supplies fewer pears to the Russian Federation

The exports of Lithuanian pears to Russia continues to decline for the past three seasons. So for the period from July to December last year, Lithuanian suppliers shipped only 18,500 tons of fruit to the Russian market, which is 12% less than last season – 21,000 tons.

However, despite the decline in export performance, Lithuania manages to remain in the second place over two periods in the ranking of countries, supplying pears to Russia.
The top three includes the Netherlands in the first place, followed by Belgium and Poland in the second place.

Dalnie Dali grocery chain expands

Agro-Belogorye plans to almost double its Dalnie Dali grocery chain store count in 2013, from 52 to 100 outlets. Ten or 12 stores are to open in Belgorod Province, while the other outlets are expected to appear in Voronezh, Kursk and Nizhny Novgorod Provinces.
Agro-Belogorye Group is a Belgorod-based company, operating 17 piggeries, two compound feed processing plants, four cereal companies, a meat-processing plant and a trading house in Belogord Province. In 2011 the company generated revenue of RUB 23.6bn ($782.9m) with a net profit of RUB 2.2bn ($73.1m).

130 new stores for Verny

Verny, a grocery retail chain of soft discounters, will have approximately 130 new outlets in 2013. In Q4 2012 the company launched 33 stores in Moscow, the Moscow Province, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Province. The first Verny store is due to open in Yekaterinburg in the summer of 2013. Further launches will take place in six regions in which the company has not previously operated. In addition, Verny is preparing to open two distribution centres in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
As Retail Update Russia reported on a previous occasion, the Verny brand is developed by the former managers of the X5 Retail Group, along with Andrey Rogachev, the founder of the Pyaterochka and Karusel grocery networks (both brands are now owned by X5). The first outlets began operations in October 2012.
